DFG DataThon: Stories and Storefronts

Loading Events

We’re happy to announce that we’ll be hosting a culturally-powered DataThon to help the Stories and Storefronts Project!!

Stories and Storefronts is a community-focused art project that will leverage data, archival research and oral history to explore the way immigrant-owned businesses have shaped and reshaped Toronto neighbourhoods.

You will need an Eventbrite ticket to attend our event:

On July 6th, we will be helping Stories & Storefronts unearth patterns of movement for immigrant-owned businesses in Toronto. We’ll sift through census and business registry data to determine how these businesses have shaped and reshaped Toronto’s neighbourhoods throughout the years.

Volunteers will have the full Saturday to group up with other data analysts to munge through the data, uncover insights, and present their findings to Stories & Storefronts. All data analysts are welcome!

A majority of our volunteers use Python and R, but any tool that can prepare spreadsheets should have no issue contributing. Just please be sure you can commit for the full 9AM-9PM period.

Food and Drinks will be provided by Terminal.io

This is an excellent way to contribute your data science skills to empower your community!
